Inertial Labs Automated Production Imaging System

Designed and built a fully automated 6-way camera imaging system that increases the speed of the Inertial Labs production process. The design features:

  • A modular enclosure with a glass panel that can slide out for maintenance, integrating 4 angled top-view cameras, 1 front-view camera, and 1 bottom-view camera for all-encompassing device imagery.

  • Six 4K-resolution web cameras connect to a powered USB hub that plugs into a host computer, where a custom MATLAB script automatically captures simultaneous imagery, organizes the images into a grid titled “Device Views”, and saves them as a compiled image with the press of a button.

  • Multiple 3D-printed PLA exoskeleton components that fasten together to create a sturdy but low-profile chassis.

The solution significantly reduced manual imaging time while providing documented visual confirmation that products were free of damage before shipment.
