Drive Test Van Setup Revamp

Designed and implemented a complete overhaul of Inertial Labs’ drive-test vehicle infrastructure by fully modeling the interior of a Dodge ProMaster in Autodesk Inventor and engineering a scalable testing platform to support rapidly increasing production demands.

Key features of the system included:

  • A fully serviceable aluminum extrusion framework engineered to support loads exceeding 5,000 pounds

  • Modular and expandable architecture designed to accommodate future system upgrades

  • Integration of 10 custom CNC-machined mounting plates manufactured from detailed technical drawings and compatible with self-designed quick-release mounting systems

  • Adjustable roof-mounted framing assembly supporting multiple antenna mounting configurations

  • A modular reference plate assembly for streamlined collection of reference-device data

  • An FTDI hub integration enabling universal device connectivity and access

  • A bottom-mounted GNSS splitter cable routing system connected to a centralized master splitter node

  • A distributed power system capable of simultaneously powering more than 60 Inertial Labs devices

  • An onboard vehicle-powered lighting solution for roof-mounted fixtures that automatically activate when vehicle doors are opened

The redesigned testing platform significantly improved operational efficiency and increased Inertial Labs’ drive-test throughput by more than 5X while producing reliable, repeatable field-test results.
